How To Use The Rank Math SEO PlugIn For Blog Post Search Engine Optimization
Simply writing and publishing content on your WordPress site won’t get it rank high in Google search results even if you have performed keyword research, using keywords with high search volume and low competition.
You need to SEO optimize your blog posts as well.
No need to panic, you don’t need to be an SEO guru to do that!
Fortunately, you can use the Rank Math SEO plugin, making WordPress SEO easy.
In this article, I’ll show you how to use Rank Math to optimize your blog posts for the search engines step by step.

The Rank Math Panel
Once you are done writing your post, scroll down until you see the Rank Math panel.
Insert Your Focus Keyword
The first thing to do, is to insert your focus keyword.
This is the main keyword you want your article to rank for on Google’s search results first page.
You can also rank for other keywords at the same time but here we are focusing on your main one.
If you don’t know how to perform keyword research, check out this online course by the Authority Hacker team.
In our blog post example, the focus keyword is “Rank Math”.
You will notice that as soon as we completed this field, our Rank Math SEO score increased from 5/100 to 58/100 and the aim is to get as close to 100 as possible.
As a general rule of thumb, any score over 80/100 means that your blog posts is SEO optimized and is in green status.
Scroll further down until you see Rank Math’s recommendations.
They are listed from highest to lowest priority:
- Basic SEO
- Title Readability
- Content Readability
Follow the recommendation listed until you a green tick next to as many of the recommendations as possible. If you need more information on a recommendation, you can click on the question mark on the right hand side of each recommendation.
Let’s have a look at the recommendations in our example.
We need to use our focus keyword in the URL and write at least 600 words.
It seems that we have used our focus keyword too many times and have not linked out to external resources.
Our blog post’s title has a lot of room for imporvement.
We need to add a positive or negative sentiment, at least one power word and a number.
Our content readability is all green. No need to improve anything on this front.

Hit the blue “Edit Snippet” button. The Preview Snipper Editor will open.
From here you can edit the:
- Meta Title
- Meta Description
Once you are done editing them, you can see a desktop and mobile preview of what your post looks like in Google search results.
Here is what the desktop preview of your example blog post would look like.
Search engines display search results using structured data. As a result, you need to configure the schema markup of your blog articles.
There are many schemas to choose from depending on the nature of your article.
For the purposes of our case study, we are going to use the Article schema as what we have written is an info article.
To edit your selected schema, you simply click on the “Edit” button on the right.
Publish Your Blog Post
Now, that you have finished SEO optimizing your blog post, check your score again.
If it is over 80/100, appearing in green, you are ready to publish your blog post.
In our example, we managed to increase our score to 91/100 following Rank Math’s recommendations.
As a result, we are ready to hit the “Publish” button.
