Udacity Digital Marketing Nanodegree Review 2024

Things to Consider Before Buying a Digital Marketing Online Course

Enrolling in digital marketing courses is a great way to keep up to date with new and developing trends. Even if you’re already a professional marketer, it never hurts to continue learning new things. The digital marketing field evolves with the times.

If you’re new to digital marketing fundamentals, courses can help you become familiar with the subject. Instead of just reading about the topic from Google, you get to do hands-on learning designed for your experience level.

There are many different digital marketing courses available, and it can be confusing trying to figure out which one to pick. Here are some criteria you should watch for when choosing a digital marketing course:

  • Learning format
  • Delivery format
  • Course structure
  • Course syllabus
  • Cost
  • Support
  • Certifications

Learning format

The type of learning format a company uses is an important consideration. Types of formats include videos, audio, text, and downloadable checklists.

Udacity uses audio lessons to teach you each lesson. There are no required textbooks. You may receive recommendations for additional resources or reading materials, but these extra items are usually free.

Delivery

One of the most significant factors to consider is the delivery format, which means how you’ll do your classes. There are three types: classroom, on-demand online training, and virtual classrooms.

Udacity gives you access to on-demand online training. You can take classes at your speed, anywhere, and anytime you want to learn. Online training is the easiest solution and often the most affordable.

Syllabus

The course syllabus is critical. Before choosing a digital marketing course, you’ll want to look at the syllabus to see what material you will learn in the class.

At the least, you’ll want to learn the following:

  • Search engine optimization (SEO)
  • Search engine marketing
  • Content marketing
  • Keyword research
  • Social media marketing
  • Analytics
  • Email marketing
  • Display advertising
  • Google Adwords
  • Facebook Ads

Udacity covers multiple topics related to digital marketing so you’re sure to learn everything you need to be successful in your chosen career field.

Features and Benefits

Choosing Udacity for learning Digital Marketing can pay off in multiple ways. You can decide to go for a nanodegree, which would take three to six months, depending on your work habits (10 hours per week).

But if you’re already familiar with digital marketing, but you decide you want a certificate proving your experience, or if you’re going to expand your knowledge of a specific area, you can enroll for independent study.

With the independent study option, you can work through a self-study model that you have customized to meet your needs and budget. The current cost of an Independent Study session is $499, whereas a Nanodegree program costs $999.

Let’s look at some of the features and benefits of using Udacity to learn digital marketing, which should only take three months (10 hours a week) of your time.

Real-World Projects

When you sign up to learn digital marketing with Udacity, you get experience running real live campaigns, see how they perform with analytical data, and learn to analyze actionable insights in order to get real world experience.

These tasks let you get first-hand experience with the real thing, so there’s no transition phase between the skills’ learning and actual applications.

Working on these projects allows students to start on their digital marketing portfolios, so you’ll have something to show when applying for a job.

Companies that you get to practice your digital marketing skills include Facebook Blueprint, Hootsuite, Google, Mailchimp, Rakuten, Zalando, Capital One, and Moz.

Once you submit your projects, you get personalized feedback from a pool of over 2,000 project reviewers. It generally takes less than three hours to get a response to your work, including tips and industry practices that can improve your projects.

Flexibility

The best thing about Udacity is the ability to work on lessons at your own pace. You don’t have to rush to be logged into a class by a specific time.

Udacity does not have set schedules, required logins, or specified time for each class. Although it estimates that you should finish a digital marketing nanodegree in three months, you set the pace to be completed faster or take longer up to six months.

There are a few specific due dates you will have to follow for your projects, but it’s self-paced for the most part. Once you sign up, you can set a custom learning plan that lets you set personal goals and your desired schedule.

Mentors

Just because you aren’t enrolled in a traditional school setting doesn’t mean you have to do all of your lessons solo.

Udacity provides you with an experienced mentor to help you get through the materials. If you get stuck or don’t understand a concept, you can reach out to your mentor.

Over 1,000 mentors are registered with Udacity, so you never have to stay stuck if you have a question. Post it on the support page and wait for a response. It’s usually pretty quick.

Community

Once you enroll in Udacity, you also get access to a large student center to connect with other learners.

Share your experiences, get help or form friendships with other people on the same journey. You may even be able to pick up a study buddy to help motivate you through your course.

The student community is a great place to get help or share your ideas to get feedback without working with a mentor or your coach. And by helping others with their questions, you can get a broader understanding of what you already know.

Career Preparation

At Udacity, the goal isn’t just to teach you about digital marketing, or whatever course you’ve chosen. This company also wants to make sure you’re prepared to make a career out of what you’ve learned.

When you enroll in a nanodegree digital marketing program, you get access to their Career Resource Center.

These resources will help with your job search, assist with expanding your professional networking, career guidance, how to negotiate job offers and gain real world experience.

How Much Does The Course Cost?

Udacity offers different payment solutions than many other digital marketing certification companies. Your final cost will depend on the amount of access you use, which is calculated by month. There are two different ways to pay.

Pay by the month allows you to access the site as much as you want while paying for a monthly subscription. Each month, you will be charged $359.

If you plan to get your certification done as quickly as possible instead of taking the full three months, you may prefer this payment method.

But if you plan to spend three months learning digital marketing, you’d save money by choosing Udacity’s special deal, which allows you to pay for the full three months, minus a 15% discount.

With the reduced price, you will now owe $309 a month, for a total of $900, due upfront before you can start your classes. But remember that it will save you money in the long run, so if you’ll be taking your learning at a leisurely pace or you’re super busy, you’d do better with the three-month deal.

Udacity Digital Marketing Nanodegree Program Alternatives

Maybe after reading our review, you’ve decided that Udacity sounds exciting, but you want to know what else is out there. There are dozens of digital marketing training programs to choose from, whether you wish to attend in person or do it online.

Coursera

Coursera offers a four-week course that teaches you about entry-level internet marketing, including how to work with marketing analytics, SEO audit and target keyword density, content strategy, smartphone, and internet tools.

The learning material consists of learning modules, required readings, quizzes, and video content. There are no live classes.

So how do Coursera and Udacity differ? Coursera is an accredited organization and is part of the iMBA (Illinois Master’s of Business Administration) degree program.

A completion certificate from Coursera may hold more sway than certification from a company that is not accredited. However, both certificates are a valuable asset to your resume, and most companies will not care which one you have.

If you’re continuing your digital marketing learning, your certificate may not count as credits in some schools through Udacity, but they should with Coursera certifications.

Simplilearn

Simplilearn offers eight different digital marketing programs to help you get a better understanding of digital marekting strategies. You get to use forty digital marketing tools, gain experience running live marketing and virtual campaigns, work with landing pages, and more.

The digital marketing program consists of a five-part course that uses workbooks, videos, exams, and online classes with a live instructor.

Concepts that you will learn using Simplilearn include:

Compared to Udacity, Simplilearn’s programs are more expensive, at $1499 for a five-part course compared to $999 for a Udacity nanodegree.

Udacity makes it easier for you to work in a marketing agency, whereas Simplilearn sets you up to be a certified digital marketing specialist. You’ll learn how to market, but you won’t get hands on experience with other marketing techniques like Google Analytics or Facebook ads campaigns.

DigitalMarketingInstitute.com

The Digital Marketing Institute is another company that offers training and certificates for digital marketing. Courses offered by the Digital Marketing Institute include diplomas for digital marketing, digital and social selling, strategy and planning, social media marketing, and search engines marketing.

To become a digital marketing pro, you will need thirty hours of classes, all taken online, without the hassle of traveling to a school. You take five short courses that cover over 130 different topics. You learn from expert instructors and interactive modules.

Compared to Udacity, Digital Marketing Institute offers a ton of resources for once you’ve completed your certification, which Udacity does not.

There are multiple specialty fields of digital marketing to join, and you get a certification of completion, similar to Udacity, which is also not accredited.
