Who Are Wealthy Affiliate?
Wealthy Affiliate is an online course promising to teach you how to make money online via affiliate marketing.
The course has been created by two entrepreneurs of Canadian origin named Carson Lim and Kyle Loudon.
They started with Niche Marketing back in 2005.
It is one of the most popular affiliate marketing courses available, claiming to have helped in excess of 1.4 million students.
Kyle Loudon is the one that teaches most of the material in Wealthy Affiliate.
Watch this video of Kyle Loudon teaching how to build a free website online.
Kyle seems to have been successful in affiliate marketing based on what he claims in the course.
He mentions some of his sites in Wealthy Affiliate:

Not very impressive given that these sites have been around for a while, right?
This leads to believe that either he has not been successful in affiliate marketing at all or that he has been successful in the past but his knowledge in the field is outdated and no longer relevant.
Apart from Kyle, there appears to be another teacher in the course as well named Jay Neil.
Jay Neil is not involved in teaching as much. He is in charge of the live webinars for Wealthy Affiliate premium members that take place weekly.
He is a Wealthy Affiliate student and launched his main site affiliateresources.org a few years after joining.
His stats, according to Ahrefs, are decent enough to be earning a living from affiliate marketing but not good enough considering he is presenting himself as the expert.
The reason seems to be that the aim of this site is solely to convince you to sign up to Wealthy Affiliate.
This reminds me of multi-level marketing and I am not a fan of this.
Things To Consider Before Buying An Affiliate Marketing Course
Before investing in an affiliate marketing course, you should make the following consideration.
Is The Course Up To Date And Accurate?
To become successful in affiliate marketing, making money online, you are better off investing in a course that is up to date, offering relevant knowledge.
A course that is outdated with misleading knowledge is not a good choice.
Of course, if you are a beginner and there is a refund policy available, you could do the course and then ask for a refund. You will definitely learn something, but this is not the tactic to follow, if your goal is sustainable success.
Wealthy Affiliate
Wealthy Affiliate is an extremely popular affiliate marketing course.
Thus, it puzzles me that its paid content hasn’t been updated and two of the main trainers don’t seem to be very successful in affiliate marketing at the moment.
But let’s have a look at the pros and cons to have more context.
Pros
- The free training is decent for beginners as it covers the basics of affiliate marketing, WordPress and keyword research
- The training has been broken down into smaller tasks that are easy to follow
- Encourages students to play by the rules generating white hat links and writing honest reviews for example
- Both video and text in the lessons making learning easier
Cons
- large portion of the premium content is outdated
- The main trainers don’t seem to be successful in affiliate marketing at present
- They don’t give refunds
- A lot of focus on teaching students to promote and sell the course aka multi-level marketing
- Unrealistic claims and promises such as recommending to choose any niche, use H3 and H4 tags instead of H2, listing Amazon prices when it is forbidden
- Poor course structure as some of the material is not part of the core training and you’d need to search for it but how can you search for it if you are a beginner and do not process such knowledge yet?
Wealthy Affiliate Features & Benefits
In Wealthy Affiliate you’ll find more than 100 training modules.
Their core training is split into two sections:
- Online Entrepreneur Certification
- Affiliate Bootcamp
Online Entrepreneur Certification is best for getting started. They promise to teach you how to build an affiliate marketing site in any niche.
Affiliate Bootcamps is best for getting started specifically, in the affiliate marketing niche. It promises to teach you how to build a site promoting Wealthy Affiliate.
Wealthy Affiliate Community
There is a Wealthy Affiliate community hosted on their own platform that is very active.
All members get ranked based on their degree of contribution.
The top 25 members earn the title of Ambassadors. But don’t really earn anything for it.
How Much Does Wealthy Affiliate Cost?
Wealthy Affiliate is membership based and there are two routes.
There is a free membership where you can get:
- Limited access to training
- Access to the Wealthy Affiliate community for 7 days
- Website building tools
There is also a premium membership where you pay $19 for the first month and $49 per month thereafter. There are also advance payment options for 6 months and a year so you can save some money this way.
Refund Policy
Wealthy Affiliate do not offer refunds!
This is the first affiliate marketing course I review that does not offer refunds, so it is not common.
If you are eager to give Wealthy Affiliate a go, just sign up on a monthly basis so that you can cancel your membership if you are not happy.
Wealthy Affiliate Reviews
Let’s have a look at what other people say about Wealthy Affiliate.
It is hard to find impressive student success stories from 2018 onwards. Most are from 2016 or earlier.
It might be because the course doesn’t seem to be up to date.
Here are a couple of success stories that are impressive.
Ralph turned his business into a six-figure business in 2018.
John made $3,700 in just 1 day.
I’ve also noticed that there are some student success stories with no income earnings.
Like this one.
I would take the Wealthy Affiliate success stories with a pinch of salt as most students make affiliate earnings by promoting Wealthy Affiliate only.

I do not recommend Wealthy Affiliate.
My main issue with this course is that its premium content is no longer relevant, and they focus heavily on getting you to devote your online business to promote them.
