Best Business Advice From Marcus Lemonis Of ‘The Profit’

Best Business Advice From Marcus Lemonis Of 'The Profit'

Get inspired by the best business advice from Marcus Lemonis of ‘The Profit’.

The television show The Profit is a popular reality show that airs weekly. It highlights many realities of what companies and their owners go through on a daily basis. The show also focuses on the difficulty involved with running a business successfully that involves management, planning, and profiting to stay ahead. It is at this point that Marcus Lemonis brings his expertise as a successful entrepreneur by offering assistance in a whole new way in order for companies to resolve their issues. The captivating parts though are the ability to offer and promise ideas that are both strategic and promising. These concepts easily let a company make a complete turnaround in order for success to be achieved. Every story that is highlighted also provides inspiration that other business owners can relate to but have no clue how or where to begin in order to work out their issues. Being The Profit’s host allows Marcus Lemonis the ability to provide guidance by utilizing a business mindset on a weekly basis. Although, there have been talks about the Marcus Lemonis scam, he has made a successful career in business and is a multimillionaire who created the business Camping World, which is now worth billions. On the show, Lemonis constantly collaborates with struggling businesses that would benefit from his advice. Ever since The Profit first aired, Marcus Lemonis has been able to give direction for many business owners through a lot of outlets.

To give you an idea of the type of advice Lemonis shared, we’ve listed a few of his best.

Narcissism and Business Do Not Mix

In July 2018, The Profit aired a segment about a narcissistic business owner. After the episode, Lemonis made it clear that he had never done business with a narcissist in the past. The business Lemonis was referring to was Simply Slices which is a family pizza business in Chicago. Lemonis was so struck by the owner’s attitude that he was certain that the business would never grow to where it could be. The reason why is because the attitude given was a huge turn-off for Lemonis. Lemonis also said that Pavoni (the business owner), is so disrespectful and controlling that he would be the reason why the business would fail. With the inability to accept any feedback, Lemonis didn’t feel convinced that the business would become nationwide. Having an inability to receive feedback says very little about Pavoni’s ability to be able to manage a nationwide chain if he can’t even accept feedback locally.

Having a Strong Work Ethic Comes at Any Age

Marcus Lemonis was taught from a young age about having a strong work ethic and business mindset that allowed him to understand the value it presents. It was while he was a teenager that his career in business really took off due to the fact of his parents making him dive in headfirst in the family business so young. This led him to miss out on a lot of normal childhood activities such as field trips at school, little league, or even attending summer camp. With such a huge amount of hard work expected, Lemonis was able to build a work ethic that would become stronger than he could imagine. Since he grew up in his family’s business, Lemonis was able to acquire values in business that was prosperous and positive. Not only that, but his entrepreneurial skills presented themselves early on too. At only 12, he began a business of mowing lawns so that he could start another business that required more investment. Lemonis now admits that he should have spent more time with his friends than worrying about a business so that his social skills would be improved. Regardless, he is still a strong believer that his ability to build a strong work ethic at an early age assisted with his current business success. It also allowed him to understand an adult environment by adapting, communicating and being able to become integrated into business environments.

Be Aware of Those You Work With

Being aware of who you work with reflects a lot about how you are perceived. This holds true for Lemonis because in another segment of his show The Profit, Lemonis once again refused to partner with an apparel store owner because of a side job issue. It came to be known that the potential investment partner was too much of a controversial risk to take. This risk made Lemonis very uneasy very quickly although the business owner denied that the possible controversial feeling did not reflect his true nature. Regardless, the investment opportunity for the business owner went sour very quickly. Lemonis then went on to share the fact that he is able to look past the problems a business has, figure out a solution that works, provide investment security and anything else business related. However, what he is unable to repair is the possible nature of the business owner because he declined to make an investment in the opportunity. Along with the advice that Lemonis has given, he has also noticed that there are a couple of traits that constantly hold back workers from being able to achieve business success. These traits are fear of failure and ego. When an employee falls for a trap like these they will prevent themselves from moving ahead and denying their coworkers from achieving their own opportunity for success. What happens is that people try to win before anyone else knows what’s going on. Instead, they need to think of the entire business being a winner.

Having an Ego

Ego can easily get the best of any business owner, and it is surprising to see the amount that still exists as owners make decisions. It can be confusing because when a decision is self-interested, a good result will always never be the case for a company. The kinds of employees that are able to put the interests of the company first are what Lemonis is truly interested in. This can be tough to know because many people prefer to advance themselves instead of the group in order to move the business along, while others like to be a team and move the business forward as a team. When an employee is egotistical the company is almost always set up to fail at some point. Not only that but they are unknowingly preparing to affect others in a negative way.

Fear of Failure

The second trait that Marcus Lemonis feels that blocks success is feeling like they will fail. Business owners are fearful of embarrassment and don’t want to look imperfect to others around them. Being unable to control anxiety like this will put a stop to their pursuit of other possibilities and to come to grips with other challenges that are able to move individuals ahead in a professional manner. When you not allow fear to consume you, you will always take the right step. You can see this in every successful business owner today because a lot of them have failed at one point but have continued to push through the failure in order to come out on top. When you fail it shows that you are willing to risk what it takes to succeed as well as knowing how to learn from the mistakes. As long as you are able to give a good effort along with integrity and a perfect business mindset, then nobody is going to care if you failed because they will always remember the fact that you tried.

Hope you found the ‘The Profit’ business advice useful. Have you caught yourself falling into these common business mindset traps? Comment below to let me know.

How To Stay On Task While Working From Home

How To Stay On Task While Working From Home

6 Tips to stay on task while working from home.

This pandemic and time of crisis has a lot of people choosing to work from home as a way to make ends meet. Whether your previous employer set it up so that you can work remotely, or you are doing freelance work that does not require you to travel, staying dedicated while being in your own home is always difficult. Keep reading for 6 tips that will help you to stay on task while working from home.

 1. Have One Dedicated Space for Your Work

While on the one hand this seems obvious, on the other you think that working from home is a great excuse to practice licentiousness, working wherever the spirit takes you. Having one space inside your home where you do your work is so important to not straying from it. When you enter your work zone, you are all set to work, kind of like having an office you go to every day. The difference is that your office is in your home, so it is much more relaxed. Do not worry about what you are wearing or even what your hair looks like. A laptop on the couch may be more comfortable, but it does not exactly bode well for your core strength. Similarly, just as a dining room table is reserved for meals, the space where you work should ONLY be for work. It is scientifically proven that a home office can be a very productive place because your mind slips into ‘work mode’ when you go into it. Your home is a field of distractions, should you not have one space that is devoted to keeping you on task?

2. Cut Out the Distractions

With the growth of various social media platforms, and the fact that we’re being bombarded by a lot of distracting things everywhere we turn, being able to find peace and quiet and really set to work on your tasks is incredibly major when it comes to working from home and being productive. There are apps that you can download that will temporarily cut your access to the myriad of social media apps. You can usually choose how long you want your access denied, in ten minute increments. A quick scroll through your news feed on Facebook can lead to hours of wasted time, time that would be better spent focusing on growing your work and being successful at it. Other distracting features are easier to get away from. Make sure your dedicated space for working from home is out of sight of any televisions, and out of earshot of any radios unless you work better with a playlist in the background. Some people find a bit of background noise helps them to concentrate, this really does vary person to person.

3. Actually Do Your Work

Having a space devoted just to doing your work and cutting out distractions all set you up for this. But most importantly, you have to actually put in the work. It is so easy to put off until later or tomorrow a task, because it is so easy to forget that you are also bound by some semblance of work hours. Often though, the time that you have set for when you will actually begin your work never really comes. Racing against the clock to get a project finished by a certain deadline can work for some people, but a lot of people find that when they are pressed for time, the unthinkable will happen. Either their computer stops working, or they get ill. Deadlines get missed, which can lead to discouragement and the inability to stay on task in the future. Find ways to be productive and get your work done even when you have no set time schedule for your work.

4. Make Your Own Schedule

Just as a workspace will have a schedule for employees who work there, you should have a schedule for yourself when working from home. It can be as simple as a wake up time, followed by breakfast and sitting down to do your work. Many people find that it helps them to mix in some other scheduled things, like breaks or lunch. These all make working from home seem a lot more like ‘going to work’, and a lot of people find the structure helpful to keeping them on task. It echoes the structure that they would have faced in an office building or other commercial location. If you choose to schedule some recreation time to split up your working day, take a break and go work out or go for a walk. Nature can have a calming effect, making you re-energized and ready to get back to work and be productive. As the weather gets warmer, being outside, even if it is just for a walk around the block, can also have a beneficial effect on your mental state, making you happier and less irritable. When sitting at a computer all day, making time for physical activity will also make you healthier in the long run.

5. Know When you Need to Stop

It is a pretty common misconception, that working from home will give you lots of time to get important tasks done while still having a lot of time to spend with your family. While it is true that the two can seamlessly blend together, sometimes that is not such a good thing. Rather than a physical barrier, like the distance between home and workspace, your barrier between work life and home life is a lot more blurred. It is so nice to feel like you can work in small bursts, a little here and a little there, but it can quickly feel like you are devoting too much of your time to working. This is why a schedule is imperative to helping you stay on task. With carefully delineated times when you should work and when it is your down time, you never have to feel like you are working too much.

Working from home is a thing that a lot of us, especially now, have to contend with. In order to make the most out of your days, and stay on task when working from home, follow these simple tips. While working for a company, and having a set paycheck every week is something a lot of people rely on, now is the time to start working for yourself. Many businesses that have a big online component to them are insanely profitable, especially at this time of crisis and you can learn how to start your own lucrative business doing turning your interest into profitable streams of income.

This article has given you a taste of what that freedom lifestyle of working from home is like and explained how to best stay on task and be productive. Why not put those skills to work for you and escape the corporate race today?

Digital Marketing For Dummies 2021

Digital Marketing For Dummies

Digital Marketing For Dummies Quick Start Guide

After being forced to shut down my brick and mortar business, I built my online business from scratch, but with too much time researching different ways to make money online. Having lived to tell the tale, my mission with this digital marketing for dummies blog post is to help ambitious individuals cut through the scams and make better-informed decisions.

What follows is a quick guide to digital marketing for dummies, strategy, mistakes to avoid, and future predictions.

What Is Digital Marketing

Digital marketing is a catch-all term for every marketing strategy using the internet or electronic devices. Digital marketing involves promoting brands or products through the internet airwaves or electronics. Digital marketing comes in many shapes and sizes, each type carrying its own unique strengths, weaknesses, tactics, and technological mediums. All digital marketing, however, is devoted to reaching the right people with the right message at the right time.

Businesses are increasingly using digital mediums to reach prospective and current customers. This is a crucial shift because digital marketing doesn’t play by traditional marketing rules. Digital marketing avoids static monologues. Digital marketing, rather, is a dynamic conversation that flows and evolves. While customers cannot respond to print marketing in real-time, digital marketing opens the channel for relationships. Digital spaces are revolutionizing marketing.

Digital marketing is often a form of inbound marketing that consumers encounter through media channels that they’re already engaged with. With so many consumers online, it’s logical that companies are skewing their marketing plans towards digital marketing. This is a popular option as a large segment of the population is either engaged with or, at least aware of, the internet. Digital marketing is a catalyst and a response to this shift towards our evolving societies.

Digital marketing is an increasingly far cry from traditional marketing. Though you will still see some semblances of traditional marketing techniques, this is fading. For example, traditional marketing emphasizes outbound marketing that pushes products out to consumers through newspaper ads, billboards, direct mail advertisements, commercials, and magazines. Today, more businesses emphasize tangible data, accessibility for diverse markets and customers.

Enterprise businesses and startups alike are employing diverse digital marketing strategies that lead to enormous social and economic benefits. Successful digital marketing is generally innovating and diverse, using various methods, including search engine optimization, online advertising, content creation, social media marketing, management, etc. There are so many ways to accomplish digital marketing goals and many digital marketing types to choose from.

Types Of Digital Marketing

Digital Marketing For Dummies

The past decade has birthed a new digital marketing generation that highlights the vitality within the online marketplace. The digital marketplace is embedded deep within many companies’ overall marketing strategies. These techniques allow companies to adjust messages for specific audiences and reach people interested in what the company offers. Below are the most common types of digital marketing.

Email Marketing

Despite the emergence of social media, mobile apps, and other communication forms, email is still the most powerful marketing tool. Whether used as a segment of a content marketing strategy or on its own, email provides value to its audience and bears the power to convert them to customers over time. Email marketing goes beyond creating powerful campaigns and hinges on effective consumer outreach, data analysis, and strategies based on that data.

Mobile Marketing

Mobile marketing concentrates on reaching your target audience through mobile devices, such as a tablet or smartphone. Mobile marketing employs mobile applications, websites, email, text messages, and social media to spread your message. Mobile marketing can also adapt special content or offers according to time or location to ensure that the order’s specifics are optimized for you and your audience.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing involves employing individuals (not full-time employees) to earn a micro percentage sales commission based on conversion rates. These affiliate marketers choose products to sell and promote. Affiliate marketers then earn a profit from company products that they sell. Both the company and the market enjoy a share of the profits generated, which makes it an accessible way for more interested parties to work together with corporate entities.

Instant Message Marketing

Instant message marketing empowers businesses to reach potential or current customers through SMS text messaging, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, or similar platforms. Like email marketing, instant message marketing can help the company develop a customer contact list. Instant messaging, as its name implies, is not only immensely popular but is a way for companies and individuals to connect any time and anywhere.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Higher search engine rankings mean enhanced visibility, leading to higher website traffic, increased engagement, and more sales. SEO marketers find out the words and phrases most relevant in their consumers’ online searches and employ those keywords to improve their chances of reaching potential customers. SEO comprises diverse elements, ranging from your web pages’ words and phrases to website link structure to overall link structure.

Pay-Per-Click (PPC)

Pay-per-click (PPC) refers to the advertisements seen on the sides of search results, on web pages, before web videos, and in apps. Pay-per-click marketing involves paid advertisements and search engine result promotion. This form of digital marketing is temporary because once paid, the ad disappears. As SEO, however, PPC can dive search engine traffic towards a business.

Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing refers to business marketing efforts through social media channels. Social media marketers approach marketing with a strategic and coordinated approach beyond posting content and commenting. Coordination and consistency are crucial to social media marketing success. These elements are often achieved through social media posting and tracking tools to analyze posts and advertisements’ results.

Content Marketing

Content marketing optimizes storytelling to increase brand awareness and inspire readers to take action, whether it is requesting information, subscribing, or purchasing. Content refers to information delivered through various platforms like blogs, e-books, podcasts, digital video, white papers, etc. Consumer value, building awareness, and creating a long-term sustainable connection is more important than mere advertisements and sales pitches.

Why Do You Need A Digital Marketing Strategy

Digital Marketing For Dummies

A digital marketing strategy carries numerous advantages. In short, this kind of strategy enables your company to expand its reach to targeted audiences in a much more quantifiable and measurable way than traditional marketing. A digital marketing strategy also helps to increase brand loyalty and boost online sales. How does a digital marketing strategy accomplish these results? Let’s dive deeper into the advantages of a digital marketing strategy.

Relationship

Connecting social media and effective management can create a relationship, customer loyalty, and a reputation for high engagement and relatability. Creating relationships both allows greater alignment between businesses and customers and humanizes the marketing space exponentially when compared to traditional marketing strategies.

Viral Engagement

Digital marketing adds an extra layer of brand awareness and engagement to content through videos and images. This engagement is easily passed along in a viral circle of interaction with your content.

Higher Conversion Rates

Digital spaces, such as a website, make purchases and call-to-action completions easy by reducing the hoops of calls, travel, etc. Digital marketing is comparatively fast and seamless.

Worldwide Reach

Digital marketing enables you to find business, trade, and communicate with potential customers worldwide. This revolutionizes the way that information is communicated compared to traditional marketing strategies.

Cost-Efficiency

A strategic, targeting digital campaign reaches the right customers at the right time with the right message at a significantly lower cost than traditional marketing campaigns.

Smart Results

Digital marketing yields measurable, trackable, trackable results through web analytic and online metrics. These metrics help you gauge your digital campaign’s success by tracking how visitors and customers use and respond to your website. Using these smart results, you can understand what to keep and adjust in your strategy and design.

Personalizable

When customer database information is linked to the website; then visitors can see targeted offers. As the buyer relationship develops, you can hone that customer’s profile and create an effective marketing strategy to reach them.

Digital Marketing For Dummies Mistakes To Avoid

Digital Marketing For Dummies

Now that we understand digital marketing’s ins and outs, it’s important to consider and prepare for worst-case scenarios. There are many ways digital marketing campaigns can go wrong. However, I’ve curated a few of the top mistakes below to ensure that you remain on the right path.

Not Defining Audiences

You must define your buyer personas and segment your market according to these segmented customer profiles. You can define them by geography, issues, expectations, potential objections, etc. These profiles will help you better understand who you’re targeting so that you can ensure that they are receiving an optimized experience.

Lack of Effective Communication

Communicate with your team and your customers. Ensure that everyone is on the same page regarding your market, your strategy, and your goals. Next, keep the conversation open with customers on social media, email, polls, surveys, etc. Communicate and learn about your audience directly to develop relationships that last!

Lack of Directness With Issues

Ignoring pain points or, worse, trying to upsell something more expensive will leave you hemorrhaging visitors and customers. Directly addressing issues in as seamless and simple a way as possible is the name of the game.

Ineffective SEO Strategies

SEO must start with quality content that contains the correct keywords and links to additional content. Mobile-friendliness is a must these days, as are short, clear URLs. Backlinks from authoritative sources and an optimized image name also work wonders to improve your SEO strategy results. SEO is a powerful tool, but only when used effectively. Take some time to understand the ins and outs of SEO before employing ineffective SEO strategies.

Not Hiring Experts

Digital marketing experts know how to explore the market, your client base and help you create a strategy that will work for you. Trust their expertise to help you understand your market better, define habits and goals, and adjust the campaign as needed. While it may appear that not hiring experts saves money, mistakes are costly. It’s better to invest in expert guidance early, so that you are not paying for costly mistakes and lost prospects later in the game.

The Future Of Digital Marketing

Digital Marketing For Dummies

If digital marketing’s current reputation as a superstar in commerce is any indication, the future of digital marketing is bright. We’ve already seen digital marketing take off, taking full advantage of all that the internet has to offer. Wondering what the future may hold? While there’s no crystal ball, here are a few educated predictions you can look forward to in digital marketing.

Influencers Will Become More Influential

It’s no news to us nowadays that influencers hold incredible sway over the market. Companies have already leveraged this impact, with many of your favorite influencers now endorsing brands with company plugs worked into their content. Marketers and paid influencers alike benefit in paid service and product promotions. We can reasonably expect marketing leverage of influencers to increase in the future.

Peer And Online Reviews Will Gain Importance

As any researcher will tell you, the importance of peer review is an essential piece of your credibility puzzle when introducing your product or service to the market. People want to know that your offering has an expert stamp of approval. Solicited online reviews will also increase in importance as many of us use reviews when researching a company, product, or service. This feedback will continue to prove a winning part of your market strategy.

Budget Trimming And Prioritization

Anyone marketing professional knows that budget is always key when deciding on how to market a product. With political uncertainty rife, an impending recession, and tighter consumer budgets, business purse strings are also likely to tighten. Businesses will become smarter about how they spend their budgets, influencing how marketing in and out of the digital space occurs. This will make it more essential to ensure that digital marketing is highly optimized.

Final Thoughts

Now that you’ve mastered the basics of digital marketing, the types of digital marketing, and why a marketing strategy is important, you’re ready to get started. Make no mistake. The market landscape is ever-shifting and ever-evolving, which means that our work as students is never complete. However, you now have a solid foundation to get started, understand common digital marketing mistakes to avoid, and a few things you can expect in the future!

– What am I passionate about? You should pick a niche that interests you. If you also have knowledge about this niche, it is even better.

– How profitable is this niche? You should do some research and find out whether your chosen niche is a profitable one or not. Some industries are obviously much more profitable than others.

2. Pick an Affiliate Program

Choosing a good affiliate program might be a time-consuming process but you should not worry about investing some of your time in it. Choosing the right program will help you in the future and help your business to grow. There are also a few questions that need to be answered before picking a certain affiliate program:

– What type of merchants use this program? You want to make sure that there are other sellers using this program.

– How much money are you likely to make with this program? It is important to make sure that the program is profitable. For example, for ClickBank, the minimum commission should be 50% and the products should have a high gravity rating. Commission for CPA programs should exceed $1 and their products should not be overly restrictive. If you decide to work with physical products, commissions should not be less than $40.

3. Build a website

Having your own website is extremely important in affiliate marketing. If you are a newbie in building websites, you can either hire a professional or use WordPress, a perfect platform for beginners.

4. Produce high-quality content.

Good content allows you to attract the right audience and potential customers. Therefore, this step is also very important.

5. Promote your affiliate products

There are several ways to promote the products you are selling. First, you can write product reviews on your website. Do not forget though that the reviews should be real. Another effective method is to use banner or solo ads on a high traffic website or use Google ads to get started.

2.eCommerce

The second type of online business that you can easily start is eCommerce (electronic commerce). eCommerce businesses vary in scope and size ranging from big and well-known retail companies such as Amazon to small craft sites. Starting your own eCommerce business might seem to be challenging in the beginning. However, just like with any other online businesses, you just need to follow certain steps and work hard. Here is what you need to do if you decide to enter the world of eCommerce:

1. Find your niche and think about your plan of action

As any other business, an eCommerce business requires a business plan. When preparing it, you need to answer many questions:

– What niche am I interested in?

– What products will I be selling?

– How will I deliver my products and services to customers?

– Are there any legal regulations on these products?

Answering these questions will help you to set up clear goals and reach them.

2. Select your business name

When thinking about the name for your business, keep in mind that it should be unique and reflect what exactly your business does. Check that you are not taking a name and website url that have been already claimed by someone else.

3. Create a website

Remember that the website is the face of your business. It is the first thing that potential customers see when they search for your products. Therefore, creating a website is one of the most important steps.

4. Market your business

There are many strategies that you can use for your marketing including social media posts and ads, google ads, word of mouth and others.

If you are looking for financial and geographical freedom to create your ultimate best life then, these two business models are the most suitable.

The Fastest Growing Skill To Escape The Corporate Rat Race

The Fastest Growing Skill To Escape The Corporate Rat Race

Escape the corporate rate race and create the freedom lifestyle you deserve.

Many people want to escape the corporate rat race and build a life on their own terms. This is a worthy aim, especially given the current climate. Many corporations must scale down their businesses considering the economic downturn. Today, people are unemployed and disillusioned with the trajectory of their careers. They wonder if it’s possible to start a business and fulfil their dreams. The simple answer to these questions is yes. It is possible. Escaping the corporate rat race to start a business will not be an easy feat. Yet, it’s possible to achieve even when the economy is on a downturn, if you learn how to start a business from scratch.

Tips to help you start a business and find your path to freedom.

1. Identify your ‘why’

Knowing your underlying motivations for leaving the corporate world will drive you forward. The reasons for escaping the corporate rat race will vary from person to person. Yet, people should still identify these reasons. Your motivation to start a business could be financial freedom. It could be a desire to leave an inheritance to your children or a passion for delivering a particular product or service. Spend some time alone and journal your ‘why’. Your motivations will remind you to keep moving forward even when times are tough.

2. Create a plan

Every successful business starts with a plan. Spend some time creating a business plan for your venture. Business plans don’t have to be complex documents. They can be very simple. Be sure to include some key points in your plan. You can include vision and mission statements, a marketing plan, profit-and-loss projections and a comparative analysis. The comparative analysis will enable you to do some quick research on other businesses similar to your venture. You can identify how your business differs from your competitors. This difference will set your venture apart from the rest of the businesses in the marketplace. So, create a business plan and you will be one step closer to your escape from the corporate rat race. Planning ahead will protect you from future uncertainty.

3. Create a simple business budget

People dread the word ‘budget.’ The idea makes many people cringe especially, in this economy. Yet, budgets don’t have to cause you to cringe. They can be wonderful opportunities to assess your business’s starting point. You’ll gain a realistic view of where you are at and where you can go. Creating and maintaining a sound business budget will also enable you to avoid overspending. It can also protect your company from running into debt. There are a variety of software programs that help with business finances. You could also use a simple spreadsheet. Do your research and see the best tool to start your business.

4. Build your team

One person cannot do everything alone. Even though entrepreneurs wear multiple hats, everyone still has strengths and weaknesses. It’s wise to leverage the skill of other people so you can spend time in your strongest area. For example, if marketing and branding isn’t your forte, seek experts and people who are well-versed in this arena. It will help you in the long run. Your team can be an “invisible” team. You can use books, online education and other resources to help you in areas where you are lacking. For example, if you have now idea how to grow your email list, you can check out this short course. Apply the knowledge gleaned from these sources to help your business grow. This will take you far, and it will pull you out of the corporate rat race.

See Short Course

5. Follow your passion

We have all heard the advice that passion will not pay the bills. When people enter the corporate rat race, they exchange their passion for a paycheck. This leads to accumulated stress and discontent. People want to escape the corporate rat race, but they second guess whether they can pay the bills. They often worry whether they have the gifts and the skills to create income on their own terms. Following your passion does not lead to poverty. Following your passion can lead to a life of abundant prosperity. When you follow your passion, it motivates you to work hard every day. It causes you to never give up because you believe in the business venture. So follow your passion. Your passion will elevate you to newer and higher heights. You will create new opportunities and set better standards by following your passion. Your actions could also inspire others to escape the corporate rat race too.

6. Find your niche

Once you identify your passion, the next step will be to find your unique niche. The difference between the two is simple. Passion relates to general industries and marketplaces. Niches are specific to the business. They are what causes the business to stand apart from the crowd. So what’s your niche? If you haven’t uncovered it yet, then reach into your personal story. Try to figure out what led you to creating this business at this moment. This will unlock your business’s niche.

7. Practice hard work and patience

Starting a business is tough. Starting a business during an economic downturn is even tougher. During these moments, the keys to success lie in exercising patience. A consistent work ethic will also carry your business during the dry periods. New businesses carry a unique set of challenges. At the beginning, new business owners are beginning their escape from the corporate rat race. If you can see through the hard times, then eventually you will strike gold. It will position your business as a brand to watch. You’ll also find the right target audience for your brand.

8. Keep a positive attitude

There are so many opportunities to become negative about your business venture. Naysayers will say that your dreams aren’t possible. As a business owner, you must become your own coach and motivate yourself when the world and the naysayers are shouting. Keeping yourself motivated will help you go far. Surrounding yourself with positivity will help you progress during the hard times. Review your mission and vision statements . Revisit the motivation behind leaving the corporate rat race. This will encourage you to persist.

9. Give yourself grace

As you move into entrepreneurship, you’ll make some fumbles along the way. Those mistakes aren’t signs that you should give up and return to the corporate rat race. Rather, they are learning opportunities. They are teachable moments which will help you rise to the next challenge that you encounter. Don’t discount these moments. Rather, learn from them. These lessons learned will help you weather the up and down periods in your business.

Escaping the corporate rat race to start a business will place you on an exciting journey. You will embark on an uncharted path. By following the steps outlined here, you will see how this path will take you to higher heights. The business that you create has the potential to change lives for the better. Even if you come up against roadblocks, keep your key motivation in mind. This will lead you to true freedom from the corporate rat race.

Udacity or Codecademy Review 2021

Udacity or Codecademy Review

Our Pick

  • steep price

Which Is Better Udacity or Codecademy Review?

You know you want a job in the tech field, or you’re interested in participating in cutting edge development. Coding languages, however, are in a diverse field and can involve a bigger learning curve than other subjects. For many, the choice on where or how to learn coding comes down to Udacity or Codecademy.

If you’ve been eyeing Codecademy’s free tutorials and Udacity’s nano-degree model, there are a few things you need to know to make the right decision. Let’s look at what Udacity has to offer to see if you should invest the time and effort.

See Udacity

Here is my Udacity or Codecademy review.

Things To Consider Before Buying An Online Course

Online learning provides a pathway to accessible and realistic education for professionals with jobs and families. The format is designed to work with your schedule, not against it. Before you choose your platform, there are a few things you need to consider.

Cost

If you’re interested in a subject for kicks or are exploring your options, you may not want to plunk down hundreds or thousands of dollars just yet. However, if you’re making big moves in your career, this is the time to invest your time and your dollars.

Time Investment

Depending on those decisions above, you may also have a different need for time investment. A hobby happens on your own time and may not be consistent. A career move will have you dedicating several hours a week to finishing a course. Choose accordingly.

Record Keeping and Credentials

Tech has changed a lot of the way we hire, using accomplishments as a metric rather than years of experience. In some cases, you won’t need to show education history, just a mastery of the subject itself on interviews or job applications.

In other cases, the official credit is still an essential part of your job application. In this case, you’ll want online courses that make it easy to track your learning trajectory and share relevant data with potential or current employers.

Subject Matter

One of the most significant conditions of all — does your online course platform offer the subjects you really want? No matter what that is, basket weaving to AI engineering, you must have a course platform that allows you to find the instruction you actually need.

Presenting Udacity

Udacity’s platform started as an experiment, but it’s now a thriving micro-community dedicated to the concept of the nano-degree track. It provides coherent instruction on course tracks for specific skillsets.

It’s similar to Codecademy in that it operates mostly in the tech niche, but that’s where the similarities end. Codecademy’s main pull is teaching programming languages, like other language learning software. Udacity is set up to more closely resemble higher education courses.

Here’s what you need to know about Udacity if you’re considering the two.

Udacity Pros:

  • Deep tech-focused course lineup
  • Clear, buildable nano-degree tracks
  • Mentor support and community engagement

Udacity Cons:

  • No mobile app for learning on the go
  • Bigger upfront investment
  • Narrow course catalog

Features & Benefits

Udacity’s focused lineup offers those breaking into STEM and tech careers the chance to learn some of the most cutting edge topics on the market today. With easy to share certifications and a clear path for mastery, here are Udacity’s most prominent features.

Nanodegree tracks

Udacity’s main attraction is its cohesive and thought out “nano-degree” tracks that the platform provides. Students will have an easier time showing potential and current employers mastery of a particular subject with transparent record-keeping and reporting.

Certificates are available as well as easy to link portfolio options. For career changes, students will be able to show a link to subject mastery, including the evolution of learning and the completion of real-world projects.

Nano-degree tracks in technology are Udacity’s primary course offering, but students can also find course options in business, career development, and other areas. As Udacity expands, more course subjects may become available in the future.

Deep Tech Focus

The content of Udacity offers higher-level tech offerings like deep transfer learning or AI engineering. These are complicated subjects that may be a bit beyond you if you don’t have programming experience, although some start from the beginning.

The course tracks are cutting edge topics in the world of in-depth data and artificial intelligence. Once you’ve completed a course series, you’ll have a practical understanding of this kind of tech and its role in the new era of business, government policy, and economics.

Udacity does have other degree track options, but deep tech is their original specialty and niche. Alternate tracks include business and career prep.

Codecademy is primarily a language platform, providing interactive and free lessons in coding languages. It’s intended for tech beginners as a way to familiarize yourself with the foundations of program development.

For students wanting a focus on cutting edge topics such as AI engineering, cloud computing, or transfer learning, Udacity offers an unparalleled dive into these subjects. Data science and related careers are some of the biggest job markets available right now. For career development, this is key.

The Mentorship

Udacity provides a steady and reliable mentorship with each nano-degree track. The ability to consult with teachers and professionals in the field is a valuable resource for those looking for mastery in the tech space.

Codecademy’s tracks do provide a few options for mentorship, but the in-depth help and direction you have with Udacity is a real benefit to the program. Because Udacity is designed to be more like a college or higher education course, you do get access to your instructors more so than other online platforms.

Cost

The investment for Udacity is a little higher than some of the courses found on sites like Udemy or Coursera. Still, it’s on par with the typical official certification course structure often found online. The cost is still highly affordable relative to the value of full higher ed degrees.

Codecademy operates on a mostly free structure as a way to ensure that beginners have full access to foundational courses. Udacity’s mission involves official certifications, record keeping, and deeper dives into subjects with a corresponding fee structure.

Students of Udacity get a lot with their initial investment. Learners get carefully crafted tracks to take them from beginning to mastery in hot topics. They get a dynamic learning structure with tons to offer in terms of engaging material.

They also get access to instructors and mentors for building expertise, answering questions, and developing knowledge. The investment may be more than “free,” but courses do offer a lot in return.

See Udacity

Time Commitment

Udacity’s certification structure requires a bit more commitment from students than some other online courses. Udacity’s courses will require around ten hours per week per class for several months.

One thing about Udacity is that students have a time limit to complete the course requirements satisfactorily. If students cannot complete the course requirements, they’ll lose access to the course and must re-enroll.

The good news is that if students put the work and time into the course tracks and complete courses satisfactorily, they’ll receive the full course access for life to refer back to. It will require more commitment from students, so be prepared for that.

Codecademy’s course structure, on the other hand, happens whenever students have time to log in. Whether it’s ten hours a week or ten minutes, there’s not much students have in terms of restrictions to learning. The flip side? There’s also nothing to hold you accountable for staying on track with your learning goals.

Credentials

Udacity offers official credentialed courses, allowing employers to view course requirements and how students stacked up quickly. It’s much easier to prove mastery of a subject with clear objectives and benchmarks, so Udacity does provide an easy way to ensure students can forward the right credentials.

Udacity also makes it easy for students to research course instructors. The instructor and creator’s background and expertise are in full view, giving students the peace of mind that they’re learning from leaders in the field.

The official certification tracks offer students and learners an easier way to ensure that their skills match potential jobs and that records are complete. This is one of the major selling points for Udacity’s format.

Course Design

These aren’t your typical monotonous online courses. These are designed to present an engaging deep dive into the subject matter and bring out your own natural curiosity and problem-solving skills.

Material is delivered through videos, interactive elements, and a robust discussion board with community members able to share knowledge and answer questions. Once you’ve passed the course, you have access to the course to refer to when you need to review or answer a question.

Reading materials are available in various formats, and the course makes it simple to quickly see what benchmarks you’re missing and how to get up to par. This is a dynamic experience.

Social Proof

We’ve scoured the internet and found that, overall, Udacity’s content and course structure is well received by most students. Many found the structure beneficial for their career path and professional development with dynamic content and access to mentors.

The level of support was another key highlight. A combination of rigorous materials and timely support makes Udacity a favorite with users.

Udacity or Codecademy

Alternatives

Udacity’s biggest competitors in the space are other course focused platforms. Let’s take a look at what these platforms have to offer. You may find that they have more of what you’re looking for in your personal or professional development.

Udemy

Udemy’s course catalog is much more comprehensive than Udacity’s but with far less focus on the degree or learning tracks. Udemy provides courses in standalone formats, designed to reach a broad variety of interests and budget requirements.

You’ll have to work a little harder to create a cohesive learning track, but Udemy can give you a range of subject matter to learn and explore. Plus, with frequent sales, Udemy is a good beginning investment.

Udemy offers:

  • A broad range of subject matter
  • Easy to follow course formats
  • Reasonable introductory prices and free content

Udacity offers:

  • A clear learning path with nano-degrees
  • Highly tech-focused subject matter
  • Far greater access to instructors and mentors

Treehouse

Treehouse is a subscription-based model designed to introduce students to tech subjects via a simple, monthly fee. Students have access to more beginner material built for learners who may not have much experience in the tech field at all.

It’s harder to find the learning certifications to prove to current and potential employers that you’ve mastered a particular subject. However, if you don’t have a degree track in mind and want to explore what tech has to offer, this is an excellent way to expand your surface-level reach.

Treehouse offers:

  • An easy, affordable monthly subscription
  • Access to a broad range of beginner courses
  • Simple learning solutions

Udacity offers:

  • Deeper dives into cutting edge tech subjects
  • An easily shareable portfolio and certification record
  • Hands-on teaching

Codecademy

If you just want to learn to code in some of the most common programming languages, Codecademy’s free content is precisely what you need. These courses are designed to provide you with your first introductions to the concepts of programming.

Much of Codecademy’s content is free, but they do offer paid memberships for more targeted instruction. However, if you’re only looking for the foundations in programming languages, their accessible lessons are the way to go.

Codecademy offers:

  • Free content — lots of it
  • Introduction to programming languages for beginners
  • Accessible, engaging step by step lessons

Udacity offers:

  • A tech-focused nano-degree concept
  • Greater access to instructors for hands-on learning
  • Portfolio and certification options

What Next?

Udacity’s niche focus is in the cutting edge tech employers are looking for. Professional developments seekers and career change professionals, listen up. Udacity’s format and nano-degree tracks can provide you with accessible lessons and an easily shareable record of your mastery.

It’s a good option for those who are serious about diving deep into fields like cloud computing or AI engineering. Becoming a Udacity student gives you the skills you need to ignite your career.

Domain Flipping Guide To Get Started

Domain Flipping

Our Pick
Namecheap - 99 Cent Domain Names

Get 99 Cent domain names on Namecheap.

How to Make Money Online With Domain Flipping

You might have wasted countless nights researching different ways to make money online. The internet is a blessing and a curse. While it’s great to have endless amounts of information available at your fingertips, how do you sift through the scams and find the valuable material out there?

Are you knee-deep in your seemingly endless journey? Domain flipping might be what you are looking for.

Unbeknownst to me, this industry can be quite the cash cow. According to Dofo, in September 2020 alone, over 80 domain names sold for over $10,000, with the most expensive at $720,000.

Coming across these numbers, you must be asking yourself – how do I get started?

Here is my domain flipping guide to get started.

What Is Domain Flipping?

Most people are familiar with the term flipping when it comes to real estate, but in fact, flipping in its simplest form is the act of purchasing any asset with the intent to sell for a quick profit.

In that sense, domain flipping is not much different than real estate. Simply put, you buy domains at the lowest prices available and sell them for a profit.

What Is a Domain?

Every computer has a unique IP address attached to it to maintain its identity. The internet created a need for websites also to have unique identifying characteristics. Instead of having to memorize endless combinations of meaningless numbers like IP addresses, domains were created.

A domain name, or domain, is the unique identifying address provided by a website that appears in the browser URL. In sticking with the real estate simile, a website’s domain name would be the equivalent of a street address to a real estate property.

How to Buy a Domain?

Before purchasing, it is essential first to do your research to see domain names for sale. You can access NameCheap to check the availability of a domain name for free. After that, you can move forward with the purchase.

See NameCheap

How to Buy a Domain if It Is Available?

Having an available domain is the ideal situation, but it is not always the case, as you can imagine. But, if you find strong domain names for sale, you can and absolutely should purchase them directly from the NameCheap right away.

How to Buy a Domain if It Is Not Available?

Although not the ideal situation, the good news is that even if the domain is not immediately available, you still have options to purchase. If you find that the domain name you are looking for isn’t available, you can hire a broker service at a charge to see if you can strategize a way to obtain the domain. Otherwise, the NameCheap will give you other similar domain names that are still available for purchase.

Purchase and sell. It seems easy enough, right? That doesn’t go without saying there is a ton of work that goes into building a successful domain flipping business. While not everyone is made for the industry, many have found bountiful success. Nothing is stopping you from finding out if you fit the mold.

How Much Can I Make Domain Flipping?

As domain flipping is a business, the ultimate goal is to turn over a profit while doing it. Much like real estate, there are times it can feel a bit like a gambling game. But, with proper market research, you can turn domain flipping into a full-time career.

What Are the Top Domain Name Sales?

While you might not necessarily see a sale of your domains reach these numbers, it is crucial to grasp the potential value out there altogether. Here are the top 5 most expensive domain names in public history:

  1. CarInsurance.com – $49.7 million
  2. Insurance.com – $35.6 million
  3. VacationRentals.com – $35 million
  4. PrivateJet.com – $30.18 million
  5. Voice.com – $30 million

If you happen to buy domains at a minimal price that sells for a number like these, it goes without saying that you have chosen the right career path. If not, don’t be discouraged. Domain flipping is a numbers game. Small domains for sale add up too, and as you grow your knowledge base, you will continue to see your profit margins growing. What is essential for you to keep in mind is that the sky’s the limit.

How Does Domain Flipping Work?

So now that you’ve got a little bit of background into domain flipping, you must be wondering how it all works. Here are five easy steps to follow if you want to get started:

Step 1: Search Your Domain

To make the most cash from domain flipping, you want to have the highest possible profit margin. Ideally, you will want to find domain names for sale that are inexpensive upfront and have the highest selling potential.

There are endless resources available online, including the Dofo Monthly Domain Industry Reports that even provide metrics surrounding top keywords of domain registrations, extensions, countries, etc. Industry reports could be an excellent place to begin some of your research.

Step 2: Evaluate Your Domain

Of course, at some point, you will be asking yourself how much is my domain worth? When determining the value of your selected domain, you want to ask yourself a few questions:

  • How long is your domain?
  • How easy would it be for a potential buyer to brand?
  • How relevant is your domain?
  • How easily can your domain be searched?

You want to be sure to cover all of your bases when doing your research and before purchasing your domain so that you can adequately determine the market value and the maximum price you are willing to pay for your domain.

Step 3: Register Your Domain

Once you have completed your research, you will proceed to buy your domains. Your domain names’ actual registration should be a quick and painless process.

Step 4: Find a Buyer Interested in Your Domain

Finding a buyer tends to be the trickiest step in domain flipping. Again, with your market research, you will determine the best course of action to take in the selling process. Whether you want to take a more laid back approach, buy-and-hold strategy, or a more aggressive approach, create a landing page for potential buyers, you will need to market the best way suited for your target audience.

Step 5: Sell Your Domain

Just as your purchase of the domain name initially was a relatively straightforward process, the transfer of ownership from you to your buyer should be the same.

Everyone you talk to about domain flipping will have their input, but we have found that following these five steps is the simplest way to get your feet off the ground.

What Are the Top Strategies for Domain Flipping?

Just like in any industry, there are secrets to being successful. Don’t worry about sifting through the countless pages of information on domain flipping strategies. Here are the top five:

1. Find Your Niche

When starting an online business, it is vital to niche down to a target audience. Domain flipping is no different. Think about some topics you are already familiar with and look for domain names and extensions relating to that field. In the end, when you are ready to sell, you will have an easier time selling something with which you are more familiar.

2. Find Your Value

Since you are picking an area you have some knowledge in, consider how you can make your domain name valuable to your seller. Put yourself in their shoes – why would you need this domain name and not any of the other hundreds that are similar and available for a nominal price.

3. Find Your Availability

Reference the NameCheap to see a list of domain names for sale. Don’t get discouraged if they are not. You still can either buy domains from the owner or wait for it to expire and grab it then.

See NameCheap

4. Find Your Price Point

There are multiple sites available to do some market research, but check out Namebio to compare prices of similar domains for sale.

5. Find Your Right Exposure

When you are getting ready to sell your domain, make sure you do the proper research to determine that you are using the best-suited venue for your sale. Utilizing a trusted brand is crucial to your domain’s final sale in building confidence in both yours and the buyers’ end.

Much like getting your feet off the ground, there is a wide variety of available strategies out there. Find what works best for you, but be sure to keep these five things in mind as you enter into the domain flipping world.

Where Can You Sell Your Domain Names?

Another significant aspect of domain flipping is the access to resources available to run your online business at your fingertips. Included in this list would be the options you have in selling your domain name. As you get into domain flipping, you will see the following:

Direct Offers

Although this does not happen all that frequently, it is a possibility that a potential buyer would reach out to you to buy domains directly from you. Like you accessed the tools to see if your domain name is available, buyers will do the same and see your information. They will reach out to you directly to negotiate your domains for sale.

One crucial thing to note is that you must not have any of your WHOIS information private to have this be an option for you. Some people do not like having their information completely public, but potential sellers will not have the opportunity to reach out to you directly without this information. I recommend keeping your email address public in this forum to keep this option open always.

Marketplaces

If you are like most domain flippers out there, you will likely not have an abundance of sellers reaching out to you to negotiate sales. Not to worry – you still have many different reliable sources available to you. The same places you go to research and buy domains for yourself will be your tools in turning around and selling them. Some of them include:

  • GoDaddy
  • Sedo
  • Flippa
  • Afternic
  • Namecheap Marketplace
  • eBay Marketplace

Online Domain Forums

If you want to look even further than the leading marketplaces, there are still even more reliable options out there for you. Here are some forums you can look into as well:

  • NamePros Forums
  • DNForum

As you begin to develop your niche, you will also start to hone in on your target market buyers. The approach will be different for everyone, and possibly every other domain name you purchase. Make sure that your marketing plan is best suited for your audience and if all else fails, try out different methods if your go-to doesn’t seem to be doing the trick.

Is Domain Flipping Legal?

Domain flipping has always been and continues to be a completely legal practice. Keeping that in mind, there are a few legal situations you want to be mindful of when deciding to delve into this world.

  • If you are a buyer, does the seller have the legal rights to sell?
  • If you are a buyer, does the seller have the ability to transfer the domain?
  • Is there anyone else out there who will want to fight you over the domain?

Most domain names sales go without any glitches, but much like many other things, the legal side only arises when issues arise. As always, make sure to cover all of your bases. Be confident in the sites you are utilizing for your domains’ purchases and sales, and you should not experience any issues.

Is Domain Flipping Right for You?

So, undoubtedly you can see the potential benefits domain flipping has to offer, but you might be wondering, is domain flipping the right fit for you? Yes, there is an element of gambling in it, but the potential reward is undeniable. Just like most things, it is a numbers game.

Everyone is most worried about job stability when starting an online business. Rest assured, as we can all safely assume the internet is not going anywhere, we can guarantee its continued growth. This includes the demand for more online businesses that will be demanding specific domain names for sale.

Do your homework. Do some research. Find a niche that interests you and figure out some domains that will become irresistible. You are your first resource in conducting the research needed in building a business out of domain flipping. The opportunities are out there, and you’ve been encouraged to find them. Now it is up to you to put this to action.

Which Is Better For Freelancers Fiverr or Upwork? Fiverr vs Upwork Review

When I had to shut down my brick and mortar business a few years ago, I was devastated. How could I find meaningful, quality work that would allow me to be both financially and location independent?

I knew I had to find something that checked all of my boxes because, after leaving the rungs of the corporate ladder years prior, there was no going back to that life.

It took me a while, but I landed on my feet and found success in my online business. Had I known about sites like Fiverr vs. Upwork at the time, it would have been much easier to consistently generate some income to get me started with an online business by finding freelance jobs that paid well and worked for me! This applies no matter where you live in the world even if you are a digital nomad. You could be based in London and searching for freelance jobs NYC for example.

Join Fiverr

Here is my Fiverr vs Upwork Review to show you a quick and easy way to make money online, if you are just getting started.

Things to Consider Before Joining a Freelancing Platform to Get WFH Jobs and Make Money Online

Whether you’re searching for freelance programming jobs, freelance illustration jobs, or freelance work in an entirely different ballpark, there are online platforms out there that can help you find quality matches for contract work.

Without sites like these to direct you to work opportunities and connect you with high-quality clients, there’s a lot you’d have to handle on your own.

First, you’d need a website. Then you’d need a marketing plan for these potential clients even to know you exist. From here, you’ll want to set up sales funnels to convert your leads into customers. You’ll also need time to build up your testimonials and reputation, as well as to network with other industry professionals.

The ideal candidate for a freelancing platform like Fiverr feels overwhelmed by everything I mentioned above. It’s for someone eager to get started providing their services right away, without all of the “traditional” barriers to enter the freelancing field.

If you want to handle things the old fashion way, then online freelancing platforms probably aren’t right for you. Instead, get started with a website builder and take things from there!

What to Consider Before Joining

Before you join a platform like Fiverr or Upwork, there are a few things you should consider:

  • How much time you have to set up an account – If you want a detailed and attractive profile, you’ll need to dedicate some time to set it up.
  • What rates you’ll accept for work – How much are you aiming to make on each project?
  • What a reasonable turnaround time is for you – Some clients may need work back ASAP, while others will plan out work far in advance.
  • Whether you’re interested in project-based or contract-based work – Many work opportunities on freelancing sites are project-based.
  • Your unique value proposition will set you apart from other freelancers on the site – What makes your work different from all of the other freelancers? Learn it and own it!

As long as you feel comfortable with all of the points mentioned above, you’ll enjoy all the opportunities that freelancing sites offer.

Presenting: Fiverr

Fiverr is a freelancer-centric work platform that uses data science to match types of projects with qualified freelancers. When you join Fiverr as a freelancer, the site promises to provide long-term work and business relationships that can sustain freelancing businesses for years to come.

When it comes to Fiverr vs. Upwork, Fiverr lets you create service offerings that buyers can then choose. Upwork, however, requires freelancers to submit proposals. And while Fiverr originally began with all services at just $5, that’s no longer the case anymore – you can earn a lot more.

Pros:

  • Secure payments
  • Fixed-price model
  • Encourages tips
  • Easy bidding
  • Mobile app

Cons:

  • 20% cut
  • Option to decline completed work
  • Strictness

Fiverr can help those who want smaller projects to create a portfolio of freelance work. Just know that the competition can be stiff. If this doesn’t sound like something you have the time or patience to handle, you might find it easier to get into freelancing traditionally.

Features and Benefits

Are you interested in starting a freelancing career on Fiverr? Here are the top features and benefits that you can expect:

Fiverr Work Process

The Fiverr work process is different from other freelance platforms. Rather than making the freelancers search for job opportunities and create individual proposals for each, Fiverr allows the freelancer to build out their profile with service offerings, package levels, and even an introductory video to attract clients to their page and bring in work opportunities.

This process is great for freelancers who don’t have a lot of time to waste sending proposals that get denied, as there’s no time lost if the client isn’t the right fit. It also protects the integrity of the rates you earn. Buyers can see what you offer and must approach the prices you’ve already set.

Seller Level

Fiverr uses Seller Levels to depict how much experience someone has on the platform. While this is a bit of a hindrance when you’re first getting started, seeing your Seller Level go up from New Seller to a Top-Rated Seller can give you the boost you need to become more visible and attractive to potential buyers.

Your Seller Level is a great way to prove just how much work you can handle and how well you can handle it.

Breadth of Skills

Fiverr is hard to beat when it comes to the variety of skills and services they allow freelancers to offer online. Whether you’re a tree-carving expert, an Instagram Reels specialist, or an e-commerce design wizard, there’s a market for just about any skill.

I love this because it creates space for freelancers with highly specific skills who may not fit the standard freelancing model. With Fiverr, anyone can make money doing almost anything they’re good at.

Potential for Long-Term Collaboration

Part of Fiverr’s philosophy is to help freelancers and clients create mutually beneficial, potentially long-term business relationships. While the majority of the Fiverr model is based around small, individual projects, creating positive impressions on clients can increase the chances of scoring recurring work or one long-term contract.

If you’re looking for a few jobs here and there for supplemental income, Fiverr can offer that. If you want something a bit more sustainable that you can rely on for steady work, you can also find that on Fiverr!

Tons of Categories and Sub-Categories

Within Fiverr’s 12 main service categories, there are further sub-categories that go on for days. Fiverr has listed virtually any skill or service you could think of.

Writing and audio translations? Check. SEO services? Check. Stationery design? Check.

A broad selection of categories is really helpful for freelancers who don’t fit into just one box. Rather than generalize your services, you can label them hyper-specifically to tell potential buyers exactly what you can do.

Supportive Freelance Environment

Tons of people who join Fiverr stay on Fiverr because of its supportive environment for freelancers. To join Fiverr, you don’t have to meet any special prerequisites. You don’t need to have a technical background or have years of experience behind you.

If you’re starting out and looking to get your feet wet, this will help you.

Compared to other platforms requiring freelancers to chase after jobs, Fiverr lets the buyers come to you and pay your pre-set rate. A model like this means more exposure for you without putting in extra time and effort.

Mobile App

Want to fieldwork opportunities from the go? You don’t have to be behind a desktop computer with Fiverr. They also have a mobile app that makes it easy to update your profile, view job opportunities, communicate with clients, and even deliver work when complete.

If you live a busy life or are adding freelancing work to an already full work schedule, being able to check in on your freelance projects on-the-go is helpful.

Gig Packages

Fiverr understands that all gigs are not made equal. To allow flexibility in scope and expectations, Fiverr allows you to price your services, or gigs, within three different tiers: basic, standard, and premium.

You can flesh out your tiered offerings by detailing what each tier includes, the differences between them, and the standard of work the client can expect from each.

If you want to get paid for what you’re truly worth (not just what a client thinks you’re worth), these tier packages are a great help.

Customer Service

Fiverr provides high-level customer services for both freelancers and clients using the platform. If you have an issue with a project, a client won’t get back to you, or there’s a technical issue you don’t know how to fix, you can reach out to someone 24/7 through either email or instant message.

For freelancers who are just getting started and want a team’s support to protect you from things like spam or rude messages, a customer service team you can count on does wonders.

Social Proof

It’s one thing to learn about Fiverr through a detailed review post, but it’s another thing to gain insight from real Fiverr freelancers on the site.

After scouring the internet for the most reflective reviews, we learned a few things about the freelancer’s experience on Fiverr:

  • It may take a while to get set up, but the work can find you quickly once you do.
  • Fiverr creates an opportunity to meet and interact with people you would otherwise not connect within your field.
  • The package tier set up makes it easy to set expectations with buyers.

Don’t take our word for it – check out these reviews from freelancers who have used Fiverr on their journeys:

Alternatives

Fiverr isn’t for everyone, but luckily there are several other freelancing site alternatives that you can choose from if you want to dive into the world of independent contract work. Some of the most popular alternative options are Upwork, Freelancer, and 99Designs.

Let’s find out what each platform has to offer.

Fiverr vs Upwork

Upwork offers a broad range of services and acts as a sort of upscale version of Fiverr. The main difference between the two platforms is the work model. Unlike Fiverr, Upwork works on a bidding system that allows freelancers to submit proposals on projects they’re interested in for the client to review. While this feature may be beneficial to buyers, it can put newer freelancers with less experience at a disadvantage as they compete with other sellers. There have also been rumours about Upwork scams but if you are a careful freelancer, there is no reason to be suspicious.

If you want to offer a very high-level service at a premium price and don’t want to get lost in low-rate projects, Upwork might be a good choice for you.

Fiverr:

  • Freelancer-focused model
  • Tiers and upsell options available
  • Better for smaller projects at lower rates

Upwork:

  • Buyer-focused bidding model
  • No package tiers or upsell options
  • Great for high-quality work

Check Out Upwork

Fiverr vs. Freelancer

Freelancer is another alternative that lives up to its name as one of the largest freelancing platforms available on the web today. With over 41 million freelancers, there’s a lot of competition but enough space for everyone.

Rather than focusing on single gigs, Freelancer is geared toward creating ongoing working relationships with its freelancers and clients. The payment structure is also a bit different. Freelancer allows for hourly rates and partial payments, which can help long-term projects that can get complex.

Fiverr does offer a faster turnaround time, however, which puts it at an advantage when it comes to one-time gigs.

Fiverr:

  • 830,000 freelancers
  • Geared toward single gigs
  • Flat-rate payment

Freelancer:

  • 41 million freelancers
  • Geared toward long-term contracts
  • Hourly or partial payment allowed

Check Out Freelancer

Fiverr vs. 99Designs

When it comes to graphic design projects, 99Designs is a great freelancing platform alternative. While 99Designs can’t compete with Fiverr’s single-digit price tags, they aim to make up for the slightly higher rates with a higher quality of work.

Fiverr also focuses broadly on freelancer work as a whole, while 99Designs hones in on graphic design work specifically. Additionally, they vet every designer that joins the site while Fiverr lets anyone join regardless of experience or skill.

Fiverr:

  • Single-digit prices
  • Broad freelancer population
  • Allows anyone to join

99Designs:

  • Higher prices, higher quality work
  • A specialized population of graphic designers
  • Vets designers before allowing them to join

Check Out 99Designs

What Next?

Embarking on a new journey as a freelancer can be intimidating. Without knowing exactly what to do to create a successful, thriving online business, it’s hard to know where to start.

When it comes to Fiverr vs Upwork, Fiverr is a great way to ease into the freelancing world with an online platform’s support.

Geared toward freelancers, Fiverr won’t make you waste time submitting proposals for projects you may not even win. Rather, the work comes to you at prices you set and tiers of service you’ve approved.

If you want to dive into the world of freelancing services but don’t know where to start, Fiverr has the structure and resources to help you thrive from the beginning.

How To Start An Online Store Without Inventory

How To Start An Online Store Without Inventory

How To Start An Online Store Without Inventory (No Experience Needed)

If you’re like me, working hard has never been a problem. I owned a brick-and-mortar business for several years. I loved the grind; I loved managing all the issues that came with owning a  business because the reward far outpaced any stresses: inimitable independence.

To make a long story short, the price of maintaining a brick-and-mortar business was too much. We shuttered our doors because of COVID-19, but me being me, I was far from done. I spent months researching how to build a profitable online business and make money online.

I know you might have wasted a lot of time going down all the internet’s many rabbit holes and you might consider this a long shot. However, I have done all the hard labour for you, if you want to learn how to start an online store without inventory (and, to be honest, without any online retail experience).

I learned some lessons during my research that you must know if you want to start selling products online without inventory. I wanted to share these lessons with the entrepreneurs of the world (yes, I’m looking at you!) to save them from all the trouble I went through.

Here is what I found on how to start an online store without inventory.

How To Start An Online Store Without Inventory Methods That Work

Creating an online store without inventory has a lot of moving pieces. I decided I’d break it down for you one step at a time to make this a simple process to understand. In reality, there is an infinite amount of ways to create a business online without using inventory.

Indeed, many companies have made online stores without inventory, and we can learn from them. I’m going to be covering the two methods that I’ve found to be most useful (and, I think, the most likely to deliver profit)– print on demand and dropshipping.

Print On Demand

With print on demand, your work is essentially that of selling designs. You will advertise these designs on your website and, when someone decides they would like to buy a t-shirt or a mug or whatever with that design, you’ll go straight to a print on demand service, who will create the item and ship it to the customer. Easy enough, right?

Now, the first question we have to ask ourselves: is print on demand profitable? Well, isn’t that the question of the day? Making a profit with print on demand hinges on a few variables.

The Designs

To be a successful retailer who utilizes print-on-demand services, you must have designs that appeal to consumers. How do you get those designs? If you have excellent design skills, the print on demand option can be a perfect way to express your vision and maximize profit. If you don’t have that artistic bent, you can find free online designs or hire a designer.

How Much Can You Charge?

With print on demand, you’ll have another company print and ship your designs. You might have a designer design those designs. You’ll have to keep up a domain and, in some cases, a service that hosts your domain.

All those eat into your profit margin, and so the question is, “how much can you charge?” Use your common sense with this one. You have to assess your situation and see if it makes sense for you.

A Few Reasons Print On Demand Is Cool

  • No inventory — that’s the goal, right?
  • You can set whatever price you want for profit.
  • A straightforward business model

The Downsides

  • Getting the right designs can be tricky
  • Because this option is relatively easy, the market is pretty saturated with print on demand retailers (though having a print on demand service can still be profitable, even in 2020)

Dropshipping

A dropshipping business connects a consumer’s specific product need to a supplier who sells that product at wholesale. In typical dropshipping business models, the supplier also ships the product to the consumer who has made the purchase through the dropshipper’s website.

In this way, the business of dropshipping is really just marketing — that is, selling products one neither makes nor holds. It’s a tried and tested way to go for someone wondering how to make an online business without inventory and without much experience.

As with print on demand and, indeed, any online business, the brain behind a dropshipping business must have a bent for marketing. You have to understand where there is a need and be able to fulfill it. Because you are using a wholesale retailer, profit can be high.

A Few Reasons Dropshipping is Cool

  • You’ll likely have a higher profit margin than print on demand.
  • All of your work comes down to marketing and dealing with consumers — no time spent worrying about the product itself.
  • The kinds of products you can sell are endless!

The Downsides

  • Because there are so many options to choose from, it can be overwhelming getting started.
  • There are more moving parts: you need to choose a supplier, and you must have a niche (which we’ll get into later)

Steps To Create An Online Store Without Inventory

Now we’re in the thick of it. So, you’ve decided to make an online store without inventory. Congratulations! Now I’ll walk you through exactly how to do that. Whether you’ve chosen print on demand or dropshipping, pay attention to these steps because these things can often make the difference between success and failure in an online business.

Step 1: The Niche

If you’ve already done your research on how to make an online business without inventory, you’ll almost always run into this key phrase: the niche. You need one, but what is a niche? The niche is your corner of the market.

Everybody you know is always late, so you open up a business that sells clocks. That’s your niche. There are all sorts of thoughts online about how to find a niche, but basically, you need one.

Why?

That’s a great question. You might be reading this and saying, “well, Amazon doesn’t have a niche.” That’s true, but you’re not Amazon. If you had the resources in terms of personnel, advertising, and physical space that Amazon has, I would say, “absolutely, go for it.” But if like me, you’re working with limited funds, you’ve got to find a niche.

Don’t go crazy with this, just find something that’s interesting to you. Shoes, wallets, furniture — be creative! Having a real niche, that is, having identified a real need, can clear up so much of the difficulties of starting an online business without inventory.

Step 2: Marketing the Product

Now that you’ve chosen a niche, you need to be able to demonstrate that your products are worth buying. You need pictures of the things you’re selling, you need to get people clicking and considering your product, and you need to work on search engine optimization (SEO) to get them to that point.

Pictures or Marketing Images

You need images on your website showing off your product in the most attractive light possible. One of the recommended ways to do this is to utilize a mockup service. I’ve heard PlaceIt is great, but I would also check out the many alternatives

Even better, I would recommend getting the product yourself and taking your own photos. This is what I did, and I was so happy I did it. You want to make money, but you also want to deliver a high-quality product; getting samples of your product to photograph will make that possible. Even though it’s an online business without inventory, I liked testing out and photographing the inventory myself.

Get Clicking!

So, you’ve got some awesome items and some awesome pictures. Now you need a website. There are plenty of hosting platforms, and some online businesses have used Squarespace, Wix, GoDaddy, WordPress, and others for their needs. These are all quite expensive as compared to sites that specialize in entrepreneurial operations — sites like Etsy, WooCommerce, and Shopify.

We’ll get into those sites further on

SEO

Anyone who knows anything about online businesses knows about search engine optimization. For the rank beginner, I’ll say this: SEO allows your chosen keywords to make your website more likely to show up in one of the first spots in a search engine like Google, Yahoo!, or Bing. You have to do this, and here’s how.

Step 3: Choose A Platform

Now that you know about SEO and what platforms are available, you’ve got to pick one. I’ll help you out with that below.

Which Platform to Choose

I mentioned above that Shopify, WooCommerce, and Etsy are standard sites for an online business without inventory. Let’s go into each one.

Shopify

With the motto “Anyone, Anywhere Can Start a Business,” Shopify is an awesome platform that allows for free credit card processing and lets anyone set up a store through their domain. It’s somewhat expensive, but Shopify is optimized to have an easy-to-use website that can get your products out to the consumers they deserve! Learn more about the process, with steps, here.

WooCommerce

“Build exactly the eCommerce website you want,” says WooCommerce, and it’s true! Fully customizable, WooCommerce is an awesome place to start a business if you want to exert full control over your online business’s look. And, I tell you this is the most exciting of all, it’s totally free.

Etsy

Now, Etsy is one of the rare retailer marketplaces that has entered the common vernacular. Do you know? People know Etsy. And I think it’s a great place to shop. You have to pay to open a site with Etsy, but it’s not very expensive. Furthermore, Etsy has the name recognition that can be really helpful with online businesses.

How To Handle Issues That Can Arise

As with any business, issues can arise. Online businesses offer their own slew of problems, and I want to just address a few of them here so you’ll be prepared if you cross them.

Merchandise Problems

I mentioned above that drop shipping merchandise comes with its own problems. You should  always get a sample of your merchandise before you start to sell it and make sure it’s of the quality you would want to make a name with. You don’t want any surprises if a product turns out being much less than your expectations.

Diversify!

Many brick-and-mortar stores have a diversity of suppliers. While that’s not necessary with online stores (or at least I haven’t found it to be), I would strongly consider putting your merch in different marketplaces.

Not only will having your things in different places likely increase profitability (read this fascinating study on “showrooming,” or comparing prices here), if one of your stores gets shut down, you’ll still have many avenues for success.

Supplier Problems

You need to find a good supplier, and the question of how to do that isn’t obvious—Google search trends thousands of results for dropshipping suppliers. Sometimes suppliers aren’t reliable, and sometimes reliable suppliers aren’t into dropshipping. What do you do?

I went to a dropshipping directory. This is just one of many. Do your research. The problem with dropshipping directories is they often charge for use, but this may just have to be part of your expenses.

Those that don’t use a dropshipping directory sometimes use middlemen to find wholesale retailers. This is another complication in the business model and another profit cut, but these middlemen can really work. Read about finding a supplier and more dropshipping intricacies.

Make sure your supplier is reliable. Being in stock is incredibly important to your business’s success.

What Next?

You can consider yourself lucky. You’ve chosen to take your life into your own hands and get started with your online business. You weren’t sure how to start an online business without inventory, but you did your research and came up with a niche, a hosting site, and a supplier. Now you’re ready to begin your independent life as an online retailer.

With the research in this article, you have all of the tools you need to be successful in the trade.

Good luck!

How To Sell eBooks On eBay

How To Sell eBooks On eBay

How To Sell eBooks On eBay Explained

Since digital media has only recently gained popularity web-wide, I revisited eBay recently and got to thinking: what would it take to sell eBooks on eBay? Paper books may still outsell eBooks four to one, but digital book sales are still a thriving industry.

eBooks have some significant advantages. They have less overhead costs than physical books and require no shipping. It seems like a ripe business venture for a budding entrepreneur, but I wanted to know how practical selling eBooks on eBay really is. You might be wondering the same thing.

If so, I have good news. I already went down the rabbit hole for you.

Here is what I found on how to sell eBooks on eBay.

Quick Facts About eBay

The online marketplace titan eBay dates back to the early days of the internet. Founded in 1998, it exploded in popularity during its first few years. By 2001, it had the most extensive user base of any e-commerce website.

It was a sales revolution, and empowered merchants had a new platform they had only dreamed of before. Using an auction format, anyone could sell unwanted items or start a proper business based around the site.

The rise of Amazon and Craigslist gave eBay a lot more competition than it used to have, but it is still one of the most popular e-commerce platforms. Customizability and creative freedom make it a pretty ideal site for e-commerce newbies.

Am I Even Allowed to Sell eBooks on eBay?

If you want to sell eBooks, your first question is likely this: am I even allowed? After all, why bother posting a digital item for sale if it just causes your account to be suspended or deleted? Though there are some restrictions, the answer is yes.

Digital items are tricky to sell, and a lot goes into determining how to sell digital downloads on eBay. There is nothing inherent about the medium stopping a merchant from copying an item indefinitely and potentially making an endless profit. Naturally, intellectual property owners are not always pleased with this possibility. eBay’s policies attempt to keep this at bay.

Unless a seller is eBay approved, digitally delivered items are restricted to a small subsection of the website called Information Products in the Everything Else category. Items listed must be listed using the Classified Ads format.

So no problem, right? You can use the approved format and section. Unfortunately, classifieds on eBay have a few shortcomings. For one, you won’t get nearly the same quantity of views and clicks on your posting.

If you manage to make a sale anyway, you can’t get profile-building feedback that might entice future customers’ trust. Lastly, the sale won’t happen on eBay, but rather as an independent transaction facilitated by the site.

In all likelihood, those looking for ebooks would turn to Amazon or proper eBay listings. That isn’t to say it definitely won’t work, but you’ll be fighting a more challenging battle for sales.

How Can I Sell eBooks on eBay?

If you want to make a proper listing, there are two workarounds to avoid the Classified Ads section. You can either sell a piece of physical media with the eBook downloaded to it, or you can get eBay approved.

The first option might feel a little dated, but it’s a simple way to avoid breaking the rules. Download the eBook files to a flash drive or CD, then mail the item to the buyer. Should you choose this method, you must include the following phrase in your listing: “I will send this eBook by postal mail. Sending it by email or by any other digital delivery method is not allowed and violates eBay policy.”

Buyers might not care for this method, however, especially since one of the most significant benefits of purchasing an eBook is being able to receive it immediately.

Let’s say you want to bypass all of this physical media nonsense. After all, if you’re going to buy something that has to be shipped, why not just buy a book itself? Your other option is to get eBay approved.

Unfortunately, more goes into this than you might expect. Sellers will have to verify ownership of the digital goods or authorization to offer and sell digital goods on eBay specifically. If the eBook you want to sell is your own, no problem. However, if you’re going to sell someone else’s, you’ll either have to convince them to permit you, or you’ll have to purchase an eBook that includes reselling rights.

I’ll go more in-depth on that later.

Avoid Rule Breaking and Keep Your Listing Active

If you manage to get verified, the issue doesn’t stop there. There are several rules to follow in order to avoid breaking the agreement in your actual listing and potentially getting your listing removed or your account deleted, making it impossible to make money.

In your listing, eBay requires you to explicitly list all requirements a potential buyer needs to receive the digital files. These vary from listing to listing, but common ones include the need for a United States credit card, terms and conditions needed for acceptance, or any separate online accounts that will need to be created.

You need to be an eBay seller in good standing with a valid account with a registered United States Address and must be verified on PayPal to confirm your identity. You must also accept responsibility for post-transactional support if the buyer doesn’t receive the file or the file doesn’t work as expected.

Erotic fiction is a top-selling category for eBooks, but if you wish to sell books of this genre, you’ll have to comply with eBay’s Restricted Adult Items Policy. You’ll have to list it in the Adult Only category of the site’s Everything Else subsection.

This might be a no-brainer, but your digital files can’t include spam, malware, spyware, or cookies, which can be used for malicious purposes like violating privacy. Honestly, though, if this is your intent when selling eBooks, I’m not interested in helping you anyway.

Lastly, You’ll need to comply with the eBay User Agreement. eBay specifies on their Digitally Delivered Goods policy that the most relevant parts of this agreement are the Seller Representation and Warranties and Indemnity sections.

The first bit essentially restates that you must be legally allowed to sell the material. The latter part promises not to hold eBay as a company or any of its employees responsible for any legal or other third-party fees that might result from issues with the transaction.

Can I Make Any Real Money Doing This?

Here’s the million-dollar question: is it worth your while? The answer, as it always is in this complex world, is that it depends. eBook marketing is an entirely separate category that’s worthy of its own article.

Still, the short answer is that you will need to know what sorts of eBooks people want to buy, and more specifically, which types of eBooks people already buy on the eBay platform.

Take a moment to examine an eBay search for eBooks. Depending on when you search, different eBooks will be popular, but the process remains the same regardless. Listed in red beneath the price, you’ll see the number of copies sold. Considered in conjunction with the price, you’ll easily be able to tell which of these listings is profitable.

Bear in mind that even a modest profit can be worthwhile considering the small amount of work involved.

Two things immediately sprung to my mind when doing this research. The first was that nearly all books are listed at $.99. You might see this and think it too cheap to make a profit from, but this is a strategic price point.

Any reader remotely interested in the book’s contents likely won’t balk at spending less on an entire book than they did on their morning coffee. Many of the listings have sold hundreds of copies, too, which is a respectable amount for a passive income

The second noteworthy part of these listings is that most of the popular ones come with full master resell rights. In other words, anyone who buys these can do precisely what you’re doing. This is both a good and a bad thing. It’s bad because you are potentially selling your product to a competitor who might turn around and start selling it too.

It’s good for two reasons. One, you might sell a copy to someone with no real interest in the subject matter who wouldn’t buy it without resell rights. Secondly, you can do this too. If you spend one dollar on a book with resell rights on eBay, you can add a book to your repertoire and profit from it yourself.

eBay is not the only site where you can purchase an eBook with resell rights. On the contrary, it might be worthwhile to buy them elsewhere so that you aren’t competing on eBay with others selling the same book. Many ebook websites include a subsection of books that come with rights, so you can pick and choose which ones you think you can sell.

An issue you will undoubtedly encounter is competition. The best way to avoid selling the same eBooks everyone else is to choose the newest books possible and to put them up before others can. Some websites feature memberships in which you can download the latest eBooks with resale rights. With a little persistence, you can check these websites weekly or daily to mine for digital gold. Be the first to offer them and see your sales spike quickly.

Just be sure to check the files thoroughly before making your listing. Don’t just check that the eBook is really there. Most files also include a Master Resell Rights Certificate, which is necessary to prove that what you are doing is legal. You can choose whether or not to include this certificate in the files you send to your own customers.

Regardless of your method, the vast majority of ebooks with resell rights available are non-fiction, usually related to self-help and business building. Luckily, these types of books have enduring popularity. Considering you are reading this article, maybe you can learn something from them too.

You Have an eBook to Sell. What Next?

It’s time to make a listing. Your best bet is to model your listing off others that are currently successful. eBay will give you the option of copying a template, which you can then apply your new information to. Format a title the same way, being sure to include resale rights, bonus eBooks, or any other features that might entice a purchase.

Most eBooks will come with a book cover, so add that and any other images included in the file in your listing. Add the genre. Under description, use whatever blurb or description the eBook comes with. Be sure to read it thoroughly. Some include original price tags that you’ll need to update.

You also should uncheck the boxes that allow offers and schedule a listing start time since you’ll be offering your ebooks for instant purchase. Lastly, make sure shipping is free and double-check your PayPal email address.

When you start to make sales, you’ll want to upload the eBook files to a free file hosting service. Then, you can easily send customers a link to download the book.

What Next?

eBay has a longstanding reputation as a good source for side hustles, and selling eBooks is no exception. Follow the general rules for marketing, and you might be able to turn selling eBooks on eBay into a thriving business.

The rules may seem numerous and restrictive, but they break down pretty easily. You have three choices: sell and ship the ebook as physical media, use the Classified Ads section, or get verified. If you choose to get verified, agree to their legal terms, clearly specify any pornography, don’t scam people, and confirm your identity. Though detailed, these checklist items aren’t unreasonable.

I hope you’ve found this enlightening and helpful, but now it’s time to get to work and sell some eBooks!
